Catan: Explorers & Pirates invites you to embark on an exhilarating journey in the captivating world of Catan. This fourth major expansion for The Settlers of Catan introduces five unique scenarios and three engaging missions, offering new challenges and adventures that will captivate seasoned players and newcomers alike.

Unlike the classic game’s single island, this expansion features three mysterious islands. Players begin on a known island, constructing ships and bringing settlers into play to explore uncharted territories. When a ship reaches unexplored land, the hex is revealed, and a resource-rich number chip is placed on it. But beware! Each scenario contains a different number of unknown tiles, ranging from 16 to 32, enhancing the excitement of discovery.

The game's mechanics evolve beautifully in this expansion. Rather than cities, players can build port settlements for two corn and two ore. These strategic settlements supply valuable resources when the corresponding number is rolled and earn two victory points (VPs). The required VPs to achieve in each scenario adds an intriguing twist to your path to victory.

If fortune doesn't favor you during the production roll (aside from rolling a 7), don't fret! You'll receive one gold as compensation. This gold is your ticket to trading with the bank for any resource you desire and can also help you navigate past lurking pirates.

• Land Ho! - Set sail to explore two new islands. Use your ships to ferry settlers and expand your settlements across the seas. (Introductory scenario)
• Pirate Lairs! - Navigate the treacherous waters as pirates threaten your trading vessels. Pay tribute or drive them off to find and capture their lairs for gold and VPs! (One mission scenario)
• Fish for Catan! - With food running low, the people of Catan need your help to fish the ocean’s bounty. But beware, as pirates are also on the hunt for fish! Earn VPs for your catches and for taking pirate lairs. (Two mission scenario)
• Spices for Catan! - The Council of Catan desires fish and spices! Befriend the mysterious inhabitants of the Spice Islands to trade for these treasures while learning valuable sailing and pirate-fighting techniques. (Two mission scenario)
• Explorers and Pirates! - The ultimate challenge! Combine all previous scenarios as you explore, capture pirate lairs, fish, and befriend the Spice Isle inhabitants in this epic adventure. (Three mission scenario)
