Traders & Barbarians is an exciting third major expansion for The Settlers of Catan, masterfully crafted as a compilation of engaging small expansions and unique variants. This standalone expansion can seamlessly blend with both Seafarers and Cities & Knights, allowing for endless gameplay possibilities.
This compilation features an array of familiar scenarios, bringing back some beloved favorites while introducing thrilling new twists. Enjoy an enhanced experience with added tiles and player pieces, especially in the Great Rivers and the Fishermen of Catan scenarios.
Explore the five captivating scenarios included:
The Fishermen of Catan: Originally introduced in the May 2006 edition of Spielbox magazine and later featured in Games Quarterly. This scenario has been notably expanded in this edition.
The Rivers of Catan: Initially released in the Atlantis scenario box and later in Games Quarterly as "The Great River". This expansion now boasts two rivers: a 4-tile river and a 3-tile river for even more strategic depth.
The Great Caravan: This scenario was first offered as a free expansion in Germany and has made its way into this compilation.
Barbarian Invasion: New to this edition! Get ready to fend off waves of invading barbarians using innovative knight pieces. This scenario features mechanics reminiscent of the flood from the Atlantis scenario, combining strategy and intensity.
Traders & Barbarians: In this new scenario, players will face the challenge of rebuilding Catan after the invasion. You'll receive new hexes including one for the castle, one for glass production, and one for marble. Complete tasks in the castle to earn gold and victory points, but watch out for lingering barbarians that threaten your trade routes!
Additionally, four minor variants enhance gameplay:
2-Player Rules: Utilize the new “Commercial Chips” to facilitate trade with your opponent and deploy 3rd and 4th neutral players to hinder their progress. (Also available online: Klaus2player.pdf)
Catan Event Cards: A fresh alternative to dice! This variant replaces the random roll with a deck of cards to create a more strategic experience, originally shared in the Atlantis scenario box.
The Harbormaster Card: First featured in the Atlantis scenario, this card awards two victory points to the player with the most harbor points. Check it out online: harbormaster.pdf.
Friendly Robber Rules: New gameplay mechanics to enhance your Catan experience.
Join in the fun and strategy with Traders & Barbarians, a must-have for any Catan enthusiast looking to deepen their adventures!
This game is a proud addition to the Catan Series.
