Mystery of the Abbey

Mystery of the Abbey invites you to immerse yourself in a captivating whodunit deduction experience reminiscent of Clue. Step into the shadowy halls of a medieval French Abbey, where a monk has been brutally murdered. Your mission? Unravel the mystery by examining clues and interrogating your fellow players to unearth the identity of the culprit.

Within the Abbey, monks belong to three distinct orders, each with three titles. They come in a range of appearances—fat or thin, bald or hooded, and bearded or clean-shaven. One monk card is kept hidden, while the rest are distributed among players. Each turn allows you to move up to two spaces and pose a question to any monk present. For instance, you might ask, “How many fat monks are in your hand of cards?” The response could take the form of a "vow of silence" or a candid answer, introducing an intriguing layer of strategy as players navigate the delicate dynamics of trust and deceit.

Every four turns, players return to the Sanctuary for "Mass." During this gathering, an event card is revealed, and players pass an increasing number of cards to their left neighbor. Special rooms within the Abbey are filled with unique opportunities: visit the Cell to pick a card from a neighbor or explore the Cryptorum for a chance to take an extra turn later.

Unlike traditional deduction games, making a correct accusation doesn’t guarantee victory. Scoring adds depth to your decisions: earn 4 points for correctly identifying the culprit, while correct declarations of a single trait grant you 2 points. However, make an incorrect declaration or accusation, and you risk losing valuable points. Picture this: you may correctly declare the murderer but still lose the game. Each session offers new surprises thanks to the incorporation of Unique Events cards, ensuring that no two games are ever the same.
