In the heart of Limousin, resistance fighters ignited a wave of defiance. They targeted locomotives, sabotaged railways and viaducts, and launched daring attacks on command posts while cutting crucial telephone lines. The stakes were high as the occupation forces’ high command ordered the feared 2nd SS Division Das Reich to mobilize towards Limousin to quell the increasingly bold maquis. Their urgency was palpable, as they prepared for their pivotal role in the Normandy front.

As the resistance gathered strength, the Breton maquis initiated their own sabotage operations. On the night of June 5, 36 brave French SAS soldiers parachuted into Brittany. Their mission was clear: to organize the resistance, immobilize 85,000 German troops in their garrisons, and prevent any from reaching Normandy. With the world watching, these guerrilla fighters held the fate of the D-Day operation in their hands.
