Step into the intriguing world of In a Grove (also known as 藪の中, Yabunonaka, and Hattari)—a clever blend of bluffing and deduction that will keep you guessing until the very last moment.

Prepare for a game where players must tread cautiously; make too many false accusations, and you risk losing! Here's how the suspense unfolds:

Each round, players receive one of eight unique silhouettes, numbered 2-8 (with one blank). Three silhouettes are revealed as suspects, while one marks the unfortunate victim. In a three-player game, be ready to remove the #2 silhouette from play.

Your mission? Uncover the culprit among the suspects or cleverly mislead others into accusing an innocent player! As the game begins, players secretly examine their silhouettes, pass them right, and take a glance at their new mystery.

The first player takes center stage, scrutinizing two of the three suspects and deciding whether to swap the victim with one of them. A colored accusation marker is then placed beneath one of the suspects.

Next, the subsequent player evaluates the two untouched suspects, placing their own accusation marker, even covering existing ones. This thrilling exchange continues around the table until all players have made their accusations, all while avoiding glances at the recently accused suspect!

The excitement reaches its peak when players unveil the suspects. Who will emerge as the true culprit? The suspect with the highest number wins—unless the #5 is among the suspects, in which case the lowest number takes the title! And remember, the suspect without a number is always innocent.

Players who correctly accuse the culprit earn back their markers, while incorrect accusations are flipped and handed to the player responsible for the top marker. The first player token rotates clockwise, setting the stage for another captivating round.

The game concludes when a player reaches eight or more tokens—or finds themselves with none, sealing their fate!

The 2021 edition of In a Grove has been refined for 2-5 players, featuring slight rule changes and new components to enhance your gaming experience. Gather your friends or family and prepare for a thrilling challenge of wits!
