Step into the captivating world of 1947 Hollywood, where the glitz and glamour of the movie-making industry hides a secret struggle for loyalty and truth. In this thrilling social deduction game, players must navigate a web of deception, suspecting that communists may be infiltrating your small production studio, slipping “un-Patriotic” messages into your films.
Will you uncover all the hidden communists before your studio faces shutdown? Or will you find yourself under suspicion, banished from the golden age of cinema?
In Hollywood 1947, each player assumes a secret role: a steadfast Patriot, a cunning Communist, or a sly Rising Star. Each round, players take on unique jobs—whether it’s the Screenwriter, Gaffer, Director, Actor, or Editor—shaping the direction of the film being created. These roles not only influence the cards players hold but also determine who gains access to special information. Feeling daring? Players can opt to skip their job and instead re-roll any two dice!
At the end of each round, those who roll stars on their dice can add a card to the movie. These cards are shuffled, one is discarded, and the remaining cards are revealed. The team with the majority of matching symbols, including those on the round's movie poster, wins that round! Signal your victory by placing your team’s matching film-strip over the movie poster. The first team to clinch 4 rounds becomes the champions of Hollywood!
As the Rising Star, navigate the game skillfully by playing both sides, aiming to extend the game to 7 rounds and ultimately tie in the climactic final round.
In this high-stakes game of strategy and deception, every player must guard their cards and true loyalties closely. You are free to speak about your contributions to the movie, but beware—the Communists and the Rising Star may find that a little misinformation helps them achieve their devious objectives!
With quick-to-learn mechanics that newcomers grasp in mere minutes, Hollywood 1947 is a standout addition to the Dark Cities Series from Facade Games, joining the ranks of Salem 1692, Tortuga 1667, Deadwood 1876, and Bristol 1350.
So gather your friends and prepare for an unforgettable cinematic adventure—where trust is scarce and alliances can shift faster than the reel of a film!
