Each player begins by surveying a selection of castles and must then declare their findings using “picture” or “ghost” signs. Did they uncover chilling spirits or merely dusty family portraits? But beware! Not all declarations are trustworthy; players might spin a web of deceit, or could they all be honest?

In the first phase, players face the crucial decision of whether to lie or tell the truth. Mrs. Truelight, a savvy character in the game, can help unveil the actual outcomes—but be warned; she’s quite the entrepreneur and will only share her valuable insights with those who bid the highest!

Strategy is key! Players who spend all their funds too early risk not having enough for the crucial second-phase auction. Will you have the resources to snatch the best castles from your opponents? Each castle comes with a score based on its ghostly inhabitants—so choose wisely!
