Eldritch Horror invites one to eight players into a cooperative game of terror and adventure, where you assume the roles of intrepid investigators. Your mission is to solve intricate mysteries, gather vital clues, and protect the world from an Ancient One—an elder being intent on annihilating our existence. Each Ancient One features unique decks of Mystery and Research cards, immersing you in the rich lore surrounding these grotesque entities. Will you uncover the true name of Azathoth or engage Cthulhu in a nautical battle?

The Mystery cards will guide your travel plans, leading you to otherworldly gates, menacing monsters, and invaluable clues. But be forewarned! Adventure lurks in the most unexpected places. During the Encounter Phase of each turn, players resolve combat or delve into their characters' personal narratives by choosing from various Encounter cards. Will you confront a monster in Istanbul or find yourself ensnared in a crime syndicate’s web? Perhaps an expedition to the Pyramids awaits, or you might research a clue in an uncharted wilderness. For the brave, a gate could lead you to dimensions beyond time and space!

However, encountering these horrors comes at a cost. Should you fail, repercussions may be dire. You might suffer physical or mental trauma, or even draw a Condition card that reflects your injuries or restrictions, such as a debilitating Leg Injury or unsettling Amnesia. You could become entangled in Debt or strike a Dark Pact with something far more nefarious than mere creditors. With each Condition, swift resolution is vital; many carry "reckoning effects" that could lead to even darker fates.

The clock is ticking, as the Ancient One draws nearer. Its malevolent influence manifests through Mythos Cards, which introduce otherworldly gates, terrifying monsters, and other ominous happenings. These cards heighten the pressure on your team, revealing new threats as the Great Old One approaches! With new Mythos cards drawn each round, investigators will find themselves battling grotesque creatures while investigating bizarre rumors, all while striving to solve their three critical mysteries.
