In Dog Lover, embark on a heartwarming journey where you’ll fetch cards, collect delicious bones, and gather scrumptious food for your adorable canine companions. Rescue dogs from the shelter, teach them new tricks, and celebrate their unique personalities. The player who nurtures their furry friends with the most love and care will amass victory points and claim victory!

Get started with a random dog card, each representing small, medium, and large breeds, accompanied by a “special trick” card. Shuffle the game cards and lay out the top nine to form a 3x3 grid. Next, set out three dog trick cards in one column and three rescued dogs in another. The player furthest from the starting player will position the watch dog token next to one of the grid rows or columns, setting the stage for an exciting game.

On your turn, select one of your trick cards and rotate it as desired to collect cards from the grid that match its pattern — think classic polyomino shapes. You can only take one card from the row or column protected by the watch dog. Remember, you can play and tuck cards both before and after you collect cards from the grid. So, what do you do with your hard-earned treasures?

• Dog cards sit proudly in front of you — good boy!
• Food cards can be exchanged for one of four different types of nutrition for your pups.
• Adoption cards are kept in hand; trading two will allow you to rescue a dog that brings a special power or endgame bonus.
• Favorite Things cards, or dog toys, become more valuable when collected in sets.
• Training cards can be tucked under a dog for bonus points or traded in for a new trick, expanding your card-gathering abilities each turn.
• Walk cards score bonus points when tucked beneath a dog.
• Bone cards provide additional bonuses for well-fed dogs as you gather them.
• Trait cards grant ongoing powers and endgame bonuses, but be careful — you must attach them to the corresponding dog during the turn you claim them; otherwise, you may need to discard multiple cards.

When the "End Game" card makes its appearance in the deck, complete the round to ensure that each player enjoys an equal number of turns. Then, it’s time to tally the points! Each dog has specific food requirements. If you meet those needs, your dog and all its traits and tucked cards will earn you points. However, failing to provide the correct type and amount of food will deduct -2 points for that dog, and you’ll forfeit the opportunity to score from tucked cards (Don’t let your pups go hungry!). The player with the highest score will be crowned the ultimate dog lover!
