Enter the intriguing world of Coup, where deception, strategy, and power reign supreme in a corrupt Italian city-state. As a member of a powerful family, you'll need to harness your sharp wits and cunning tactics to outmaneuver your opponents and emerge as the last family standing.

At the start of the game, each player begins with two coins and two face-down character cards, representing their influence in the city. The game features a 15-card deck composed of three copies of five distinct characters, each boasting abilities that can turn the tide in your favor:

  • Duke: Take three coins from the treasury and block foreign aid.
  • Assassin: Pay three coins to attempt to eliminate another player's character.
  • Contessa: Block assassination attempts targeted at you.
  • Captain: Steal two coins from another player or prevent someone from stealing from you.
  • Ambassador: Exchange character cards with the Court deck, drawing two cards and returning two to the deck. You can also block theft aimed at you.

On your turn, choose between performing a character action or taking one of the basic actions:

  • Income: Take one coin from the treasury.
  • Foreign Aid: Take two coins from the treasury.
  • Coup: Pay seven coins to force an opponent to lose influence by discarding one character card (mandatory if you have ten or more coins).

When you declare a character action, it automatically succeeds unless another player challenges you. If challenged, revealing an incorrect character results in losing one influence, turning that character face-up. Once a character is face-up, it can no longer be used. If both of your characters are revealed, you're out of the game!

The last player with influence claims victory!

This version also introduces an optional character known as the Inquisitor, adding exciting new strategies to the mix. With the Inquisitor, you can draw a card from the Court deck and choose to exchange it with one of your face-down characters. Additionally, this character allows you to force an opponent to reveal one of their character cards, opening up more opportunities for exchanges from the Court deck.

Gather your wits, deploy your cunning tactics, and may the best family rise to power in Coup!
