Step into the enchanting world of Codex Naturalis, where a vibrant tapestry of biodiversity awaits your exploration!

As a devoted disciple of the legendary monk, Tybor Kwelein, your mission is to compile an extensive manuscript that catalogs the unique species residing in pristine primary forests. Are you ready to navigate strategic decision-making and perhaps even sacrifice a species for the greater good of your manuscript?

At the beginning of the game, each player receives a unique card, showcasing an intriguing mix of four possible resources positioned at the corners. You'll hold two resource cards and one valuable gold card in your hand, while two cards from each type will be openly displayed on the table.

During your turn, place a card from your hand that overlaps the corners of one or more existing cards on the table. Your starting card boasts the unique advantage of four corners for overlap, while resource and gold cards can overlap up to three corners. Feel free to play resource cards with confidence, as they usually feature resource symbols in their corners!

However, be strategic when using gold cards; these grant immediate points when played but require resources to be on display, such as three fungi or one each of plant, animal, and insect. Scoring occurs as soon as you play a gold card. Some cards provide fixed points, while others depend on the number of specific symbols visible or the corners you cover during that turn.

If you choose, you can also play a card face down. These secret cards possess four corners along with one resource but won’t contribute to your score.

After your turn, replenish your hand by drawing either a face-up card or the top card from either deck. The excitement intensifies until a player reaches 20 points, signaling the end of the round. Each player will then take one final turn, scoring points based on their alignment with two public objective cards and one secret objective card.

In the end, the player with the highest score will be crowned the ultimate collector of the Codex Naturalis. Prepare for an unforgettable journey through the wonders of nature, where strategy, resource management, and biodiversity intertwine in a captivating gaming experience!
