Cheating is Forbidden? Not in this delightfully mischievous card game – in fact, you'll need a bit of trickery to claim victory!
Welcome to Mogel Motte, where the goal is simple: be the first to rid yourself of all the cards in your hand. Each player begins with a hand of eight cards, while the oldest player receives the coveted guard bug, which remains on the table throughout the game. The stage is set as one card is flipped face-up to kick-start the discard pile.
The cards are numbered from 1 to 5. Most are numbered, but a few come with special abilities that create unexpected twists during gameplay. Players must strategize not just to play but to outsmart their opponents!
On your turn, you’ll play a card onto the discard pile. The card you choose must be exactly one number higher or lower than the top card (with numbers wrapping around, so you can play a 1 on a 5 and vice versa). If you can't make a play, simply draw a card from the deck to end your turn.
But here’s where the fun really begins: cheating is your secret weapon! You can discreetly dispose of cards by slipping them on the floor, hiding them in your sleeve, or other sneaky tricks! However, you must keep your hand above the table at all times, can only rid yourself of one card at a time, and you can't cheat with your last remaining card. The player with the guard bug has the special privilege of calling out any cheating attempts, halting all gameplay until the accusation is resolved. If they are wrong, the Guard draws a card. If they’re right, the offending player returns the card to their hand, receives an extra penalty card from the Guard’s hand, and becomes the new Guard!
Additionally, “Cheating Moth” cards are the ultimate challenge – they can't be played onto the discard pile and must be disposed of through cheating. Remember, as the Guard, you are above suspicion and can play these cards without consequence.
Explore the action-packed twists of the game with special action cards:
Once a player successfully empties their hand, the round concludes. Players then tally their scores: 10 points for each Cheating Moth, 5 points for each action card, and 1 point for each number card in hand. After a number of rounds equal to the number of players, the game wraps up, and the player with the lowest score triumphs!
Prepare for a hilariously chaotic experience that keeps everyone on their toes with Mogel Motte – where the line between honest gameplay and clever deceit blurs, making every round a thrilling challenge!
