Castles of Burgundy

The Castles of Burgundy transports you to the picturesque Burgundy region of High Medieval France, where you step into the shoes of a noble aristocrat wielding power over a fledgling princedom. Your mission? Build thriving settlements and majestic castles, engage in lively trade along the river, tap into the riches of silver mines, and harness the wisdom of travelers.

This captivating game challenges players to strategically select settlement tiles from the central game board and place them into their unique princedom, depicted on their player board. Each tile serves a specific purpose that activates as soon as it is placed. The diverse regions of your princedom await particular types of settlement tiles to flourish.

As you delve into the game, you'll navigate through five dynamic phases, each comprising five exciting rounds. Each phase kicks off with settlement and goods tiles ready for selection on the game board. At the start of every round, players roll two dice, while the first player also rolls a goods placement die to determine which goods tile becomes available. Then, in turn order, players will take their actions, choosing from any two of the following options:

• Claim a settlement tile from a numbered depot on the game board and place it in your staging area.
• Place a settlement tile from your staging area onto your player board, matching the number of one of your dice and ensuring it's adjacent to a previously placed tile.
• Deliver goods corresponding to one of your rolled dice.
• Acquire worker tokens that allow you to manipulate your dice rolls.

Beyond these actions, players can also purchase a settlement tile from the central depot to add to their staging area. Whenever an action earns victory points, those points are tallied immediately. Every settlement tile yields rich benefits, whether it's extra actions, money, movement on the turn order track, additional goods tiles, dice adjustments, or direct victory points. Plus, filling an entire region with settlement tiles earns you bonus victory points!

The game concludes when the last player wraps up their turn in the fifth round of the fifth phase. Players are awarded victory points for any leftover money, workers, and undelivered goods, along with bonus points from specific settlement tiles. The victor? The player with the highest tally of victory points!

This 2019 edition of The Castles of Burgundy enhances your gameplay experience with eight expansions—seven previously released as promotional items and one new addition: Shields. Please note, this edition includes one fewer double-sided Monastery board compared to the fourth expansion. It does not feature the first, third, or seventh expansions; however, it proudly presents a brand-new player board (x4) that has never been released before (Board 2).
